TOP 5 REASONS SHAFTESBURY GLEN WILL MAKE YOUR SPRING GOLF TRIP BETTER
January 02, 2017
The most improved Myrtle Beach golf course in 2016 should be near the top of your must-play list in 2017.
Shaftesbury Glen is now a must-play layout. A year ago, Shaftesbury Glen Golf Club closed for a two-month renovation project that provided the course a memorable facelift. Twelve months later, here are five reasons the “new” Shaftesbury will make a golf trip great:
Shaftesbury went from being a course where many holes were similar in appearance to offering an interesting and varied look. More than 250,000 square feet of waste bunkers were added to the layout, framing one or both sides of seven holes and providing striking new visuals.
So, you think the additional sand made the course harder? Think again. The waste bunkers are shallow, making them relatively easy to play out of, and the often cavernous finger bunkers that surround nearly every green were softened and in some cases eliminated. It’s a trade-off that is a net positive on the playability front.
If you want to play Shaftesbury this spring, let me highly recommend the Best of the Beach golf package, a 3-night, 3-round deal that provides golfers a choice between 15 of Myrtle Beach’s best golf courses. In addition to Shaftesbury, you can play the likes of Caledonia, the four courses at Barefoot, Tidewater, Thistle, Glen Dornoch, True Blue, Prestwick, Arrowhead, Blackmoor, Heather Glen and Possum Trot.

Bentgrass greens are increasingly rare along the Grand Strand, but Shaftesbury’s are among the best in the region. The course’s L93 bentgrass provides a firm, smooth putting surfaces and they will be in peak condition in the spring.
Lastly, in addition to playing at Shaftesbury, may I recommend staying there to? One of the course’s hidden features are the condos over top the clubhouse. The condos, which include three and four bedroom units, are practically new and allow groups of 20 to stay-and-play onsite. It’s a great setup for groups and allows easy access to the rest of the beach. Most people are unaware of the condos but make sure to ask about them.
